How To Use A Paint Spray Gun

Paint spray guns have become a very efficient tool for painters of all kinds. They can save you the hassle of brush and trays but also considerably cut down the amount of time you have to put into a project.

These devices, as helpful as they are, require some knowledge and practice to use. To use a paint spray gun correctly you must know what kind of surface you are painting and which type of paint you have chosen to use. To properly paint the area you will need to be able to adjust the angle from narrow to wide spraying, along with adjusting the volume of the airbrush spray with the thickness of the paint used.

Technique is everything when using one of these tools and the only way to perfect it is practice. One good way to do this is by using while only running water through your device. Your focus needs to be set on how to apply the most even application by not just using your arm, but moving your body to keep the application level even.

Distance also plays an important factor of the technique you will use when using a paint spray gun. Always be sure to work within your reach and maintain a distance that will allow the paint to cover fully yet not drip or run. Be sure the gun is always moving before you pull the trigger to being spraying and let off the trigger before ending spray movement. This will avoid excessive paint from gathering at your beginning and end points. Another technique to use is as well is to be sure to overlap your paint spray halfway on each run and always be sure to turn your gun horizontally when covering corners.

The proper pressure setting needs to be selected on your gun. You need to have the appropriate amount of pressure that will allow your paint spray to be full and solid with no runs (excessive) or incomplete areas not filled by paint (lacking). Also, while selecting the correct pressure, if you have the pressure all the way up but are still not able to fill in your paint area you may need to reselect a nozzle tip that will allow a greater range of spray that will match the pressure setting desired.

While it does not seem very dangerous, following the proper safety precautions when using a spray gun is extremely important. Safety clothing will protect you not only from a messy paint accident but irritation that could be caused if accidentally sprayed while being exposed close to the tip of the spray gun. Eyewear is another important accessory to use at all times while operating these guns. This will not only protect your eyes from an accidental spray directly into your eyes but will also keep your eyes protected from any paint over-spray that may occur.
